Laura San Giacomo was born on 14 November 1962 in West Orange, New Jersey. She is the daughter of MaryJo and John San Giacomo, a paper mill owner. She was brought up in Denville and she studied in the Morris Knolls High School, Denville and earned a degree in fine arts from Carnegie Mellon School of Drama. Later she attended Washington College. She is the wife of Actor Matt Adler and this is her second marriage. Her first husband was Cameron Dye (1990-1998) and she has a son from him. Her son Mason is a patient of cerebral palsy. She lives in the San Fernando Valley in California. She works for charitable causes especially the ones related to the disabilities. She is a founder of the CHIME Charter Elementary School for the children with special needs. She is also interested in horse riding, gymnastics, ice skating, tennis, golf and in playing piano.
She chose her career in acting and appeared in many stage drama’s like ‘Wrong Turn At Lungfish’, ‘Three Sisters‘, ‘Beirut‘, ‘The Tempest’, ‘As You Like It’, ‘Romeo And Juliet‘ and ‘Crimes Of The Heart’. Her first meritorious TV appearance was for an episode of ‘Miami Vice’ (1989). She also appeared in ‘All My Children’. Her first film was ‘Sex, Lies and Videotape’ (1989) in which her performance drew much attention. She later appeared in ‘Pretty Woman’, which was a super hit film and in which she played the role of “Kit de Luca“. She has to her credit many other films like ‘Miles from Home’ (1988), ‘Quigley Down Under’ (1990), ‘Under Suspicion‘ (1991), ‘Vital Signs’ (1990), ‘Once Around‘ (1991), ‘Where The Day Takes You‘ (1992), ‘Nina Takes A Lover’ (1994) and the TV miniseries ‘The Stand’ (1994). She landed the starring role in ‘Jenifer‘ in 2001. She made guest appearances in TV series like ‘The Handler’ (2003) and ‘Unscripted‘ (2005). She also appeared in films like ‘Checking Out’ (2005), ‘Havoc‘ (2005) and ‘Conquistadora‘ (2006). In 2006 Laura made guest appearance for season III of ‘Veronica Mars’. In 2006 she started acting in ‘Saving Grace’.
She has earned many Awards till now. She won the Chicago Film Critics Association Award in two categories in 1990 for ‘Sex, Lies and Videotape’. She won the Independent Spirit Award in 1990 as Best Supporting Female for ‘Sex, Lies and Videotape’ and won Best Actress Award in Palm Beach International Film Festival in 2005 for ‘Checking Out’. She earned nominations in BAFTA Awards (1990) for ‘Sex, Lies and Videotape’, Golden Globes (1999) for ‘Just Shoot Me’ & ‘Sex, Lies and Videotape’ and satellite Awards (2001) for ‘Just Shoot Me’.
