Lorraine Toussaint was born on 4 April 1960 in Trinidad, West Indies. Her mother was Janet Beane. She moved to Brooklyn, New York when she was ten years old. She completed her studies in the Manhattan’s School of Performing Arts in 1978 and then she moved on to do graduation from the Juilliard Drama School. While studying, she had to care for her mother who suffered from multiple sclerosis. She is an enthusiastic Architect and a professional landscaper and gardener.
She appeared as a guest star in ‘Law and Order’. Then she played “Elaine Duchamps“, an assistant medical examiner in ‘Crossing Jordan’. She did a movie ‘Hudson Hawk’ in which she played role of “Almond Joy“. She is best known for her role of attorney “Renee Jackson” in ‘Any Day Now’ in which she is worked alongside Annie Potts. In 2007, she appeared in a recurring role of a prison inmate “Yoga” in ‘Ugly Betty’. She was also a regular guest in ‘Threat Matrix’. Currently she is can be seen as part of the main cast in ‘Saving Grace’.
For her role in ‘Any Day Now‘, Lorraine received five nominations for the ‘Image Awards‘ in the category of ‘Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series‘ from 1999-2003.
